Erik ten Hag’s transfer strategy since joining Manchester United has often come under fire. The gaffer clearly favours arrivals from his former employers Ajax, but the result has not been the best. The likes of Antony best resemble what has been going wrong, especially given the price tags involved.
As such, the part acquisition by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the resultant football control was expected to alter the club’s transfer strategy. But recent scouting news arrives from a familiar destination.
Manchester United identify Anthony Martial replacement
As per ESPN, Manchester United are “tracking” Ajax striker Brian Brobbey. The 21-year-old Dutch starlet has been on Ten Hag’s radar for a while now, with past attempts allegedly being mooted.
Interestingly, the source indicates that a January transfer may not materialize. However, the British side may be eyeing the forward for a different purpose altogether. Anthony Martial is practically exit-bound at the end of this season and this transfer might be on the radar keeping the Frenchman’s departure in mind.
Martial has simply not worked under Ten Hag and this transfer would make sense in more ways than one. Having said that, the Rasmus Hojlund experience thus far might make a few at United squirm at the prospect of another young striker joining the ranks.

One does wonder whether or not a slightly experienced pair of feet up front may be the solution to the club’s immediate goalscoring woes. When Zlatan Ibrahimovic last fulfilled this role, the side did see their numbers go up – a feat that Holjund has aped only in the Champions League so far this campaign.
For now, Brobbey himself seems keen on staying put at Ajax but the summer may spin a different tale.
