Angel Gomes could be signed by Manchester United in an effective and economical acquisition this summer window.

Currently, the only hope that Manchester United genuinely enjoys is the performance of its youngsters. In Rasmus Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho, the future of the club appears solid.

Even amidst reports of sales and summer clear-outs, these three names are virtually untouchable as it is clear Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS seek to build the team around these starlets.

While academy graduates and young players have always been the lifeblood of the Red Devils, they do not always pan out positively.

Marcus Rashford, for instance, has simply not lived up to the kind of hype and elite performance levels he was dishing out not too long ago. In Dean Henderson, the future of United’s backline appeared safe but even that saga tapered out.

Sales of youngsters always bring with them a bittersweet feeling, especially the ting of irreversibility which arises. But that need not be the case with one player.

Manchester United interested in Angel Gomes – report

According to a report in TEAMtalk, Manchester United are considering signing Angel Gomes from Lille.

The technically proficient midfielder who came into prominence at United around Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time did not receive plenty of opportunities under the gaffer.

Eventually, the starlet was released by the club in the summer of 2020. He then went on to sign for French outfit Lille.

With the Ligue 1 side, the English player has developed quite well and now at 23 years, he may prove to be a smart homegrown signing if the deal goes through. United could do with his composure in the possession in deeper areas of the pitch.

While the report does add interest from the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, the past may just prove to be strong enough to see the club’s academy product have another shot at the Theatre of Dreams.
