Manchester United are reportedly ready to sanction a deal for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to reports in Spain.
The Belgian international, currently representing his country at Euro 2024 in Germany, has attracted interest from several top clubs across Europe.
Among those keeping a keen eye on the 22-year-old are La Liga giants Barcelona. As per Mundo Deportivo (via UtdDistrict), the Catalan outfit sees Onana as “plan A” for their midfield, but their financial situation is making it extremely difficult for them to pull this transfer off.
But Barcelona’s loss could be Manchester United’s gain, with the 20-time English champions reportedly prepared to get this deal done.
Manchester United ready to pay up for Amadou Onana – report
The Mundo Deportivo report adds that the Red Devils are ready to sanction a move worth “€55 million fixed fee plus €5 million in variables, along with a considerable salary” for Amadou Onana.
Erik ten Hag is in the market for a strong, athletic defensive midfielder to partner the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo in central midfield, and the Everton star appears to fit the bill near-perfectly.
Meanwhile, the Toffees remain under pressure from the Premier League’s Profits and Sustainability Rules (PSR). They need to generate a significant amount of money before June 30 to ensure no regulations are broken again, making a prospective Onana sale all the more likely.
Sources indicate that a deal can be done quickly if Everton receive a fee in the region of €60 million for Onana’s services. The only question that now remains is, will Manchester United actually pay up?
