Manchester United’s first competitive outing of the new season was certainly a frustrating affair, with Manchester City bettering their neighbours in the Community Shield fixture on penalties.

However, the Red Devils did manage to taste success over the weekend, albeit off the pitch.

Amid United’s defensive crisis, Erik ten Hag has been pushing to reunite with his former Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. After a long-drawn-out negotiation, the club’s hierarchy are set to fulfill their manager’s wish.

Manchester United agree double deal for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui

According to The Athletic, Manchester United have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich over fees for both Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

The Dutch centre-back will join the Old Trafford outfit in a deal worth €45million, plus €5m in add-ons.

The 24-year-old will add plenty of experience—having played for Ajax, Juventus, and Bayern—as well as physicality and technical prowess in possession to United’s backline.

De Ligt, who has been keen to reunite with Ten Hag all summer, has agreed to sign a five-year contract with the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Bayern have also agreed to allow Mazraoui to move to United for a fee in the region of  €15m plus €5m in bonuses. The Moroccan right-back, who is also capable of playing on the opposite flank, impressed at Ajax with his ability to link up with his attacking teammates in the final third.

However, the 26-year-old has struggled to replicate similar performances in the Bundesliga, owing to fitness issues.

The move for Mazraoui is dependent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s exit.

The ex-Crystal Palace has agreed to join West Ham United, who will pay a £15m fee to the Mancunian outfit once the Englishman finalizes his United termination.
