Top coach has “verbally agreed” to become new Manchester United manager after Ten Hag’s sacking

Manchester United have reportedly already made plenty of progress in their pursuit to appoint Ruben Amorim as their new manager following Erik ten Hag’s stunning exit.

Earlier on Monday, United released a statement confirming the sacking of Ten Hag, as the Dutch coach failed to steady the ship at Old Trafford.

The 2-1 defeat at West Ham United over the weekend pushed the Red Devils to 14th position in the Premier League table and eventually forced the club’s hierarchy to act immediately and pull the trigger on Ten Hag.

In their statement, United also revealed that assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead the side as the interim manager for the time being. However, reports suggest the Premier League giants are unlikely to take too long to find a new permanent manager.

Manchester United in talks to appoint Ruben Amorim – report

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are working on a deal to appoint Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s successor.

The report adds that the Premier League giants are willing to pay the €10 million release clause in his contract to secure his services from the Portuguese outfit. The two clubs are in talks to finalise a deal.

Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs has gone a step further, claiming Amorim has “verbally agreed” to become the United manager.

The 39-year-old is one of the most sought-after coaches in Europe, having impressed with his tactics and man management at Sporting, who have won two Primeira Liga under his tutelage.

During the summer, Amorim was heavily linked with Liverpool before they finalised the appointment of Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.

As such, bringing in such a high-profile name during mid-season would be seen as a real coup from INEOS.
