Ruben Amorim wants to replace Ten Hag’s signing with Arsenal talent who has impressed in La Liga
Ruben Amorim has reportedly set his sights on Karl Hein, who could potentially replace Andre Onana at Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag’s on field tactics and in-game management received plenty of backlash after United’s abysmal start to the new season, which left them languishing in the 14th place after the 2-1 defeat against West Ham United in October.
However, his transfer decisions were perhaps even worse and played a big part in his eventual sacking.
Amorim inherits a squad which lacks intensity and technical quality, and it is tough to see any Ten Hag signing bar Andre Onana be guaranteed starter under the new manager. Surpisingly, a report from Spain suggests even Onana could be replaced by the incoming United manager.
Manchester United are interested in signing Arsenal loanee
A report from Spain relayed by Football365 claims Ruben Amorim wants Manchester United to sign Karl Hein, who is on loan at Real Valladolid from Arsenal.
It is understood that a new goalkeeper is one of Amorim’s priorities, as the ex-Sporting CP boss is not convinced Onana, who joined United from Inter in 2023, is reliable enough to be his number one.
The Spanish report makes a rather bold claim, stating Ten Hag’s signing is “considered a resounding failure” at Old Trafford. His recent promising performances, however, paint a different picture.

Amorim wants “a new goalkeeper with guarantees” as Onana is “very prone to making serious mistakes.”
In that regard, Hein has emerged as a top choice to potentially replace the ex-Ajax shot-stopper. Valladolid have struggled in La Liga, but the 22-year-old has managed to impress so far with his commanding presence.
Mikel Arteta also admires Hein. But his contract in North London is due to expire at the end of the season and he is not “short of offers.”
