Premier League legend all praise for Bruno Fernandes after FA Cup heroics
Manchester United delivered a famous victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup on Sunday.
While on paper it may look like a simple penalty shootout win courtesy of a 1-1 draw, the game was so much more than that. United were an outfit to reckon with courtesy of a splendid goal from Bruno Fernandes.
However, as a red card was brandished at Diogo Dalot the Red Devils quickly saw their fortunes turn. Minutes later Gabriel was quick to equalise.
Having said that, the home side did not see the extra man advantage through, even as Kai Havertz saw his dubiously awarded penalty taken through Martin Odegaard saved by the heroic Altay Bayindir.
The ensuing extra time and penalty shootout saw the Turkish goalkeeper showcase his prowess, guiding the Red Devils to the next round of the FA Cup.
Whilst the reserve keeper rightfully won the Man of the Match, full credit due to his in-game saves too, a legend of the game credited the club captain.
Alan Shearer, speaking to the BBC, was categorical in his praise for Bruno Fernandes, stating: “Bruno Fernandes has worked so hard, he has had to do a lot of tracking back as well as getting that wonderful goal.”
The recent suspension does buttress how the club are a starkly different side without their Portuguese maestro who at his best both creates and scores the goals in plenty.
Under Ruben Amorim’s new system, the 30-year-old has time and time again shown his reliability.
If anything, the weekend fixture might just be a sign of things working out for the club, as they herald their first win in six games.
