How ex-Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing at Besiktas
Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has enjoyed a great start to life in Turkey.
Ruben Amorim is the latest name to be trusted to be at the helm at Old Trafford. The way he has fared so far at United has underlined it’s not going to be an easy ride for the Portuguese tactician and that the Red Devils remain far away from challenging for the major trophies. At this stage, United are also unlikely to secure Champions League football through the Premier League.
In the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, Solskjaer has been the only manager to secure back-to-back Champions League qualifications for United.
The fan-favourite Norwegian is now in charge of Besiktas and the United faithful are following their 1999 Treble hero’s exploits in Turkey with keen interest.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s record at Besiktas
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer agreed to return to management after over three years, replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the Besiktas manager.
Before the start of Solskjaer’s reign in Istanbul, Besiktas found themselves sixth in Super Lig.
On Friday, Besiktas faced Eyupspor and registered a 3-1 win, climbing to the fourth spot. This was Solskjaer’s fifth win as the side’s manager.
In his first seven games, the ex-United gaffer has five wins, one draw, and one defeat.

Apart from promising results, Besiktas have also looked very lively under Solskjaer and delivered an emphatic 4-1 win against Athletic Bilbao in his opening game.
Solskjaer also enjoyed a memorable honeymoon period as United’s interim boss and some critics may scoff at Besiktas’ results for the same reason. However, having seen how Amorim has started in Manchester, it’s fair to say it’s not easy for every side to experience the “new manager bounce.”
