Reaction Of United Players As Fosu-Mensah Joins Bayer Leverkusen
Timothy Fosu-Mensah has completed his switch to Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United.
The 23-year-old has signed a deal until June 2024 with the third-placed Bundesliga side. The move to Germany comes after he reportedly declined United’s proposal to extend his stay, and with his latest deal with the Red Devils expiring at the end of the season, the Premier League leaders have agreed to sell him for £1.8m.
His only Premier League outing of the season was against Crystal Palace, the side where he had an unsuccessful spell during the 2017-18 season. He returned to Old Trafford after another below par temporary stint at Fulham, but failed to push former Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the right-back spot.
The Dutchman will hope to rejuvenate his career in Germany, and Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes’ words of praise will provide much needed confidence. The 38-year-old said: “Timothy Fosu-Mensah is a technically adept, fast and physically strong defender who can be used both as a right-back and in the centre.”

While fans at the BayArena are getting a versatile defender who has all the potential of becoming a bargain signing, his presence in the dressing room at the Theatre of Dreams will be duly missed.
In a clip shared on social media, Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly can be seen bidding an emotional farewell to the player who arrived in Manchester as a youth talent from Ajax in 2014.
Pogba told Fosu-Mensah that he’ll pray for him, adding, “Who’s gonna make me laugh? Him?! [Bailly] ‘This day, we will remember this.”
