Three Manchester United Players Could Leave Before January Deadline Day
Manchester United made the biggest signing of the January window last year in Bruno Fernandes to push for the top four spot in the Premier League.
Things worked as planned, with the Red Devils overtaking both Chelsea and Leicester City to finish third on the league table following the final matchday of the 2019/20 season.
This campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men find themselves challenging for the title, but have decided against making a new signing to aid their title aspirations. Amad Diallo was the only arrival at Carrington, but the deal with Atalanta was agreed in the summer.
Nonetheless, the Premier League giants still have been busy in this window. Timothy Fosu-Mensah was sold to Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen, while another full-back – Ethan Laird, has been loaned out to MK Dons.
Ahead of Monday’s deadline day, United are working on three more outgoings.
Jesse Lingard, who fell down the pecking order following Fernandes’ arrival a year ago, is on his way to London to join West Ham on loan. The deal is already in place, with an announcement imminent.
The Red Devils have also agreed a deal in principle to send Facundo Pellistri on loan to La Liga side Deportivo Alaves. The former Penarol forward needs to accumulate some more first-team minutes elsewhere before he’s ready for a debut at the Theatre of Dreams.
Potentially the last departure of this window is a player United have been trying to offload since the start of last season.
Marcos Rojo, 30, has barely featured under Solskjaer. He spent second part of the last season on loan at his boyhood team Estudiantes.
The defender, who has entered the final six months of his contract is expected to return to Argentina again, and this time on a permanent basis. He’s set to join Boca Juniors on a three-year deal.
Despite no new incomings, Manchester United will do well to offload fringe players, and find a right destination for their young talents to develop.
