‘We Won’t Let City Run Away With It’ – Solskjaer Reacts After West Brom Draw
Manchester United’s title hopes are more or less over following back to back draws in the Premier League.
Last week at Old Trafford, Everton came from behind to share a point with virtually the last kick of the game. Now, the scruffy start at West Brom Stadium ensured the same result for the visitors.
With two consecutive stalemates, the Red Devils now find themselves seven points behind leaders Manchester City, having played an extra game.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp conceded the Premier League title following Liverpool’s 3-1 loss at Leicester City. Considering United’s inability to defend, there isn’t much scope of a shuffle at the Premier League summit.
Nonetheless, Solskjaer is adamant to not give the Sky Blues a free run at this season’s title. In his post-match interview, the Norwegian told Sky Sports: “We won’t let them [Manchester City] run away with it – we’re playing them soon. We’re not giving it away early – no we’re not.”
The United gaffer’s comment are encouraging, but at this point the gap between the two sides is only likely to widen further. If anything, they risk losing their second spot to Leicester City, who are only below them on goal difference. If Chelsea manage to win their fourth consecutive match under new manager Thomas Tuchel, they will also move four points within the record Premier League champions.
With Europa League returning to United’s schedule from this week, the challenge to keep hold of their runners-up place will truly be an unclimbable mountain.
