David De Gea Set To Leave Manchester United – Will Be Handed Huge Pay-off

David de Gea is set to leave Manchester United in a ‘goalkeeper exodus’ come end of the season.

The Premier League’s highest paid goalkeeper seems surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, with Dean Henderson staking a claim between the sticks for the Red Devils.

Henderson, who returned to Manchester from a fruitful loan spell with Sheffield United, initially struggled to dislodge De Gea. However, in the recent weeks, the 24-year-old stepped up in the Spaniard’s absence, showcasing fine shot-stopping prowess against the likes of AC Milan and Man City.

In his press conference ahead of the Brighton game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested there isn’t an assured Number 1 pick between the two goalkeepers. “I have the option of two top goalkeepers and of course both of them want to play as much as possible – that will be decided on merit,” the Norwegian said.

The four-time Player of the Year winner is no longer the Red Devils’ first-choice goalkeeper, and will have to spend considerable amount of time watching the United academy graduate guard the goal from the bench.

The Spain international earns £350,000-a-week, and with two years still remaining on his contract, the aforementioned scenario isn’t financially suitable for the club.

The Mirror claims that United will have to offer a huge pay-off in order to rip up De Gea’s £36.4m contract and get him off the wage bill.

Alongside the 30-year-old, Sergio Romero, and Lee Grant could also see curtains down on their respective time at the Theatre of Dreams, as United look to slash their staggering expenditure on goalkeepers.
