Sweden won a well-deserved point against Spain in their Euro 2020 opener with their resilient defensive performance.

Spain dominated the play as expected, with Luis Enrique’s men recording more than 85% possession. However, they rarely managed to get past Sweden’s backline, leading to Slovakia finishing the matchday at the top of Group E.

The only clear-cut opportunity for the hosts fell to Alvaro Morata, who failed to capitalize on Marcus Danielson’s blunder in the first-half.

Victor Lindelof, alongside goalkeeper Robin Olsen, was a key figure behind the Spanish attackers’ frustrating night in Sevilla. The 26-year-old was even awarded the Star of the Match trophy for his composed display against the Spaniards.

The performance holds a little more relevance due to the fact Lindelof shared the pitch with Pau Torres.

The Spanish centre-back, who wasn’t bad either, is reported to be a defender Manchester United are looking to sign and replace the Sweden international with.

Regardless, Lindelof would be more delighted with keeping a cleansheet and winning a point for his country, rather than getting one over his potential successor at Old Trafford next season.
