Manchester United and Birmingham City are nearing an agreement over a loan deal for Tahith Chong.

Chong returned to United’s pre-season training earlier this week from his loan move at Club Brugge. The Dutchman moved to the Belgian club after his Bundesliga spell with Werder Bremen was cut short during the January transfer window.

Now, it seems the Red Devils have decided to keep the 21-year-old in England instead of allowing another continental adventure.

Championship side Birmingham City are understood to be leading the race for the exciting winger and are close to agreeing a season-long loan deal with the Premier League outfit, reports the Telegraph.

Considering the abundance of young attacking talents at Carrington, Chong is unlikely to be the only departure of the summer.

Amad Diallo, who has been given permission by United to play for Ivory Coast at the Olympics, could also go out on loan. Although any concrete decision on his future is yet to be taken.

Meanwhile, in the defensive department, Southampton are reportedly confident of finalising a season-long loan deal for left-back Brandon Williams.

Nathan Bishop and Reece Devine have already left Old Trafford on a temporary basis to join Mansfield Town and St Johnstone respectively, and the way things are going in the window, confirmation of a third exit seems imminent.
