Agreement Close: Varane Prefers To Head Straight To Manchester Following His Holiday
Manchester United are not ‘far off’ from agreeing personal terms with Raphael Varane.
Real Madrid’s pre-season camp is already underway, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side registering a 3-1 win against Segunda Division side Fuenlabrada. However, the involvement of big-name players was scarce due to the recently concluded Copa America and the Euros.
Varane is currently on holiday with his family after France’s early exit from the European Championships at the hands of Switzerland.
He’s due to rejoin Los Blancos for pre-season training in the next few weeks, but now it’s being reported that his preference is to head straight to Manchester.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the Premier League giants are not ‘far off’ from meeting the 28-year-old’s demands and hope to finalise a deal soon.
In contrast to the Jadon Sancho transfer saga, where the biggest hurdle was convincing Borussia Dortmund rather than the player himself, agreeing personal terms with the France international would give United an upper hand in this scenario.
With the Frenchman’s deal running out in a year’s time, the Spanish outfit won’t be in a position to do much if he ultimately decides to depart. He’s free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.
As such, Real are expected to sell their star centre-back for a ‘good price’, and there’s confidence the defender will move to England this summer.
