Man United Right-Back Set To Join English Club – Diogo Dalot Likely To Stay
Man United’s academy right-back Ethan Laird is closing in on a season-long loan move to Swansea City.
Laird impressive spell with MK Dons last season is set to reunite him with his former manager Russell Martin, who’s now in charge of Swansea.
According to the M.E.N, the English Football League Championship outfit are ‘big admirers’ of the 20-year-old, with sources at Swansea expecting the deal to be concluded this week.
Another loan spell under new boss Martin, who believes Laird is now ready for Championship football, will be the right step for the youngster’s development. He will also come up against his academy teammate Tahith Chong in the league. The winger moved to Birmingham City on loan last month.
However, Laird’s departure won’t have any significant impact at Old Trafford, as United are reportedly open to keeping Diogo Dalot for the new season.
The Portuguese fullback, who scored his side’s fourth goal against Everton last week, has seemingly done enough in pre-season and during his last loan spell with AC Milan to present himself as a reliable competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
It is understood that the Red Devils have already rejected Milan’s approach for Dalot as well.
Interestingly, the former FC Porto man’s staying at United will also put an end to the club’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier.
