Scott McTominay’s Performance vs Burnley Showed Why He’s Rated By Every Manager

Scott McTominay gave Sir Alex Ferguson an early birthday present by putting in a great shift to take all three points against Burnley.

The Scot gave Manchester United an 8th minute lead by firing the ball past Wayne Hennessey from the edge of the box.

McTominay came close to getting a brace before the break with another venomous shot, which was saved by the Burnley goalkeeper. But the ball came back off the post and straight to Cristiano Ronaldo, who tapped into the empty net.

Partnered alongside Nemanja Matic, McTominay was given freedom to roam the midfield, and the 25-year-old certainly impressed in and out of possession. He dominated the midfield battle, and offered the physicality that the Red Devils lacked against Newcastle United.

McTominay was a regular presence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and it seems he’s equally valued by Ralf Rangnick, as the United academy graduate was started against Burnley despite struggling with an injury after the Newcastle clash.

Sir Alex is also believed to be a big admirer of the Scotland international, and enjoyed the midfielder’s goal from the stands at Old Trafford on the eve of his 80th birthday.

McTominay wished the iconic manager a happy birthday in his post-match interview. “Legend of the game, I’ve got a lot to thank him for so happy birthday to him,” he said to BBC.
