Injury to key player puts pressure on Ineos to make new signing imminently
Ineos Group chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s partial acquisition of Manchester United has arguably ushered in more changes and prospective shakeups than was the case for much of the Glazers regime. The footballing control is slowly beginning to show, especially given that the new CEO has been robbed from rivals Manchester City.
This is a clear show of intent and ambition from the group despite the fact that the actual sale and the resultant deal is yet to be ratified and passed.
In that regard, another way for them to make their presence known is by acting immediately in the ongoing transfer window.
Anthony Martial injury to force Manchester United to spend?
Manchester United were handed an unexpected injury blow when it was revealed that Anthony Martial had to undergo surgery on a groin injury and will now be out for 10 weeks. This leaves the club’s thin option of strikers even thinner. In fact, on paper, the Red Devils only have Rasmus Hojlund as their fit and available striker up front.
While the starlet was exceptional in the Champions League, on the domestic front his impact has been minimal. Of course that is beside the point considering that Erik ten Hag doesn’t even have a full-time replacement striker whom he can sub on when the Dane doesn’t cut in front of goal.
This is where Ineos must arguably make their presence even more known. While it is understood that the side may not be willing to spend big on transfers and especially not in the current stage when the sale is still in transition, opening up funds for a quick striker acquisition in the winter window may be in the best interests of the club.
The week or so will be crucial in this regard.
