Manchester United have ‘agreements in place’ with Anthony Martial replacement, confirms David Ornstein
Manchester United are working on bringing in Joshua Zirkzee to replace Anthony Martial this summer.
Erik ten Hag has had to make do with Rasmus Hojlund as his only striker option for the most part of the season amid Anthony Martial’s injury struggles.
The Frenchman only played less than 500 minutes in the Premier League last season, highlighting just how paper-thin the Red Devils’ attack was during Ten Hag’s second term at the helm.
Upon the expiration of his contract, Martial left United ahead of the summer transfer window, further intensifying the need for a new goal-scorer to challenge Hojlund.
Joshua Zirkzee’s move to Manchester United is close to being completed
According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, Manchester United are looking to finalise the signing of Joshua Zirkzee.
They already have ‘agreements in place’ on personal terms and agent commission for the Bologna star, who has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including AC Milan and Arsenal.
The 23-year-old Dutchman, who scored 11 league goals and provided five assists last term, is known for his ability to drop deep and link up with his teammates, making space for wingers who like to run in behind.

His style of play should complement the likes of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. Further, Ten Hag will finally have a reliable option to both support and challenge his current number nine, Hojlund.
Ornstein adds that talks continue about the player’s fee. His contract includes a €40million (£34m) release clause, but United are exploring whether to activate it or negotiate a price separately with Bologna.
