Manchester United are on the verge of making a surprising new addition to their first-team attack, according to reports.
Having signed Rasmus Hojlund last summer and Joshua Zirzkee in the ongoing transfer window, the Red Devils now have two very promising and highly potent talents for their centre forward position.
In spite of this fact, the Old Trafford outfit continues to be linked with several strikers across Europe, including Brentford’s Ivan Toney. But following latest developments, it now appears extremely unlikely for the club to bring in any more players for this particular position.
If reports are to be believed, the Mancunians are on the verge of signing a new striker for the first-team, and an incredibly exciting prospect at that!
Manchester United promise first-team role to Chido Obi-Martin
According to the ever-so-reliable Fabrizio Romano, Chido Obi-Martin has been promised a first-team role at Manchester United when he joins the club.
In fact, this was one of the crucial factors that convinced the in-demand youngster to leave Arsenal’s academy for United. The 16-year-old had a plethora of offers at his disposal, including some “big proposals” from Arsenal as well as German clubs. But ultimately, he appears to have chosen the famous red shirt of Manchester.
Speaking on his YouTube channel this morning, Romano said: “Chido is ready to go to United. Why? Because of the project. The project is obviously Hojlund, Zirkzee, these are the two strikers. But behind them, Chido Obi Martin will be considered the third striker currently at Manchester United.
“So this is the idea, to have a player who obviously can be for the academy, but also helpful for the first team when they will need. Pathway—this is what Manchester United have offered the player.”
The first-team promise made to this teenage sensation looks to be very much in line with INEOS’ new strategy, as highlighted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe a few months ago.
The new club co-owner had said he would rather “sign the next Mbappé than spend a fortune trying to buy success.” And with Chido Obi-Martin, the 20-time English champions appear to be doing exactly that.
