Manchester United could end up terminating contract of star player

Manchester United could terminate Luke Shaw’s contract over his fitness issues.

Luke Shaw’s time at United has been plagued by injuries and that is putting it lightly. The highly-rated flankman arrived at the club with much hope pegged on him, especially from some of his performances at Southampton. While he did survive the reign of multiple managers of varying tactical philosophies, the injuries and frequent setbacks remained a common point.

When fit, he is nearly undroppable given what he brings to the team and his movement on the ball. However, those days seem increasingly numbered.

According to Mick Brown, who is a former United scout (via Caught Offside), the Mancunian giants may be mulling over making a difficult decision: “Whatever the issue is, he’s not playing and he’s collecting a big wage which could be used to bring in a new player if they can get him off the books.”

Balancing the books will be a massive headache for the side, with the January transfer window not expected to raise any eyebrows in the form of arrivals unless the club can first sanction some sales and lighten their wage-bill.

As such, it is understandable what Brown goes on to add: “It might be the best decision for them that they let him go, because we know they want to bring somebody else in in his position. It’s a difficult decision because everybody knows how good he can be when he’s fit. Then you’ve got the issue of finding a club who are willing to sign him knowing his history because it’s not like his contract is running out this season or anything. But if it becomes a possibility, I think they might have to move him on.”

Ruben Amorin’s side are already linked with the number of left-backs for the upcoming transfer window. The new tactical setup relies heavily on specialized wingbacks who can defend shrewdly and the games so far have not painted a rosy picture for the outfit.

A winter of careful decisions looks to be on the horizon.
