Negredo Claims Gary Neville’s Reign At Valencia Was Destined To Be A Disaster
Alvaro Negredo has claimed that Gary Neville’s tenure as Valencia manager was a disaster from the minute it happened.
The Manchester United legend turned to punditry once his playing days were over, and was well known for his admirable insight into the way teams played, and what they were doing right or wrong. He was desperate to get into management, however, and was given the chance after former Valencia boss Nuno decided to step down.
But things didn’t go as planned for Neville, and he was sacked by Valencia after 28 matches at the helm, in which the club won just 10 games- including a 7-0 drubbing by Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa Del Rey semi-final. However, Negredo believes the Englishman isn’t at fault.
The La Liga club was a mess off the field, and the Spaniard believes that those off-field problems had an effect on the performances on it.

‘With regards to Gary, I think that he arrived at Valencia at a complicated moment for the club,’ he told the Telegraph.
‘For the players, and it’s certain that from a personal perspective, everything was good because he’s a football man who knows the players and changing rooms well. The time I spent with him was really good.
‘It didn’t end well because of a lot of circumstances that are external to him and to the players, we were trapped in a really bad cycle in Valencia at that time and he didn’t have any luck in taking us out of it. We didn’t know how to, either.
‘It’s was not a question of just Gary.’
Former Manchester City striker Negredo signed for Middlesborough on loan this summer, and got his Boro career off to the perfect start, scoring on his debut for the club in a 1-1 draw with Stoke City.
