Spurs Boss Opens Up About His Rumoured Interest In Schneiderlin

Mauricio Pochettino has waved away any interests and admiration towards United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

Morgan and Mauricio were a great pair when together at Southampton, and that sparked huge rumours of the midfielder reuniting with his manager in 2015, before he put pen to paper for the Red Devils.

However, the player has failed to impress since his arrival at United, and new manager Jose Mourinho has openly allowed him to leave the club next month. Everton have been heavily linked with Schneiderlin, and are now favourites to sign him, following Pochettino admitting he has no interest in such a deal.

“It was a rumour. There was never interest in him, we never made an offer to him,” Pochettino revealed.

And when asked whether the inclusion of Harry Winks in recent games – latest being a start against Burnley – has been a factor causing the manager not to look to sign another midfielder, Pochettino answered praising Harry for his quality and improvement since the start of the season, adding that his place in the starting XI was established because he worked hard for it and deserved it.

Pochettino further admitted how hard it is to find a player mid-season, and it is a task he must achieve as he needs to strengthen his side to propel them into a very tough top 4 spot.

“I am happy with the squad,” he added. “At the same time I recognise it is always very difficult to improve the squad in January. Because the best players, it is difficult for their teams to allow the good players to leave halfway through the season.

“If some special situation happens, maybe we need to be open. But it will be tough or difficult to improve the squad in that period.”
