According to Tuttosport, the Italian heavyweights have turned their sights to Memphis Depay.

Memphis was widely touted as ‘the next big thing’, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Louis Van Gaal, Wayne Rooney and Arjen Robben openly backing him to mature into a big star.

The forward joined United in 2015 for €25 million. He was immediately handed the No.7 shirt – worn previously by club legends Eric Cantona, David Beckham and even Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Rossoneri wanted to sign Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu, but he has been taken off the market partly because of Everton’s failure to seal a deal for the Manchester United No.7.

Deulofeu graduated from the famous ‘La Masia’, and first joined Everton on loan from Barcelona. After a second loan spell at Sevilla, he signed a permanent deal with Everton. The Spaniard also sports the No.7 shirt for the Toffees.

The Spaniard was set to be replaced by Memphis at Goodison Park. But with the move failing, and Yannick Bolasie and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both injured, Deulofeu is set to stay at Everton.

The Rossoneri hierarchy could subsequently look to step into the bidding for Memphis, having monitored the ex-PSV star prior to the current transfer window.
