Alexis Sanchez Should Become United’s Next Number 7, Claims Club Legend

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has revealed that he wants Arsenal’s wantaway star Alexis Sanchez to become the Red Devils’ next number 7.

Alexis Sanchez looks set to part ways with Arsenal at the end of the season, as the Chilean has refused to sign a new contract offered by Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger.

The 28-year-old is adamant on joining a club that aspires to contest for major silverware every season, and he is therefore, being linked with some of the biggest clubs on the continent.

Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City are already believed to be in the hunt for the former Barcelona man, and as per latest reports, Manchester United have also entered the race for the winger’s services, after sources in Chile claimed Jose Mourinho had personally contacted the player via a phone call.

And now, former United midfielder and club legend Bryan Robson, who is currently in São Paulo as the Old Trafford outfit’s ambassador, has further fuelled the aforementioned speculation, by stating that he believes Alexis Sanchez to be good enough to wear the legendary #7 shirt at the Theatre of Dreams.

Robson stated (via Sport Witness): “I know that Sanchez seems to be a bit unsettled at Arsenal. He wears number seven at Arsenal. I wouldn’t mind seeing Sanchez come in wearing the number seven for Manchester United.”

However, this transfer looks unlikely at present, given the fact that Jose Mourinho’s men currently share the same amount of Premier League points as Alexis’ current club.

But Robson remains far from concerned regarding his club’s current slump in form, as he believes United will head in the right direction under the management of the Special One, who he thinks is similar to Sir Alex Ferguson.

“I think they’re very similar,” he added. “They’re both winners, they’ve both got great records as managers.

“You know he’s very strict with the players on certain aspects of the game, Mourinho, and Sir Alex Ferguson was that way as well. The training is very similar, because I’ve been down to the training ground a few times to watch the team train, so there are quite a few similarities between the two of them.”
