Premier League Duo To Face Off In Battle For Jose Gimenez

Manchester United and Arsenal are set to fight it out for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez this summer.

The Uruguayan defender was effective for Diego Simeone in the previous season, but has fallen of favor in the ongoing campaign, after having made just 16 league appearances for the Rojiblancos. Savic and Diego Godin have kept him out of the first team, which has unsettled the youngster, who looks set to leave at the end of the season.

Gimenez was linked with a move to the Emirates at the start of the season, but Atletico Madrid were not ready to let him go. However, Diego Simeone is now looking to cash in on the center-back, with both Arsenal and Manchester United heavily interested in his services, as per the Daily Mail.

The 22-year old has already made 30 senior appearances for the national side, and is one of the most experienced defenders in the country. Moreover, his strong, tall ,and athletic stature makes him a perfect fit for the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger apparently wants him to act as a deputy for Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi next season, but Jose Mourinho, on the other end, is looking for a first-choice partner for Eric Bailly at the back, and wants Gimenez to be that man.

Both clubs are ready to meet his release clause of £56m, and the youngster would definitely be a shrewd addition to either squad in the summer.

Where do you think Gimenez will play next season?
