Manchester City have confirmed their second signing of the summer, that comes in the form of Benfica’s goalkeeper Ederson Moraes, for a fee which believed to be around £35 million.

The Brazilian shot-stopper follows Bernardo Silva to the Etihad, taking the Citizens’ summer spending to £78 million already.

The news was released by the club on their official website, stating that the 23-year-old had been given the green light to join the club on a six-year contract after an impressive 2016/17 campaign with the Portuguese champions.

Ederson himself claimed Pep Guardiola’s influence to be one of the major factors in his decision to make the switch to the Etihad.

He said: “I like everything about Manchester City. This is a great club, the league they have here in England and they have amazing fans and they play splendid football. I have always had the dream to play in English football and now I’m going to make it true.

“With Pep Guardiola, City are growing more and more. He is putting in place a young team for the future. Those were important factors in making my decision.

“Manchester City has an amazing squad. I think they managed to have a good season. Next season, we will have to be focused to achieve the goal of winning trophies.”

The Brazilian goalkeeper is expected to become City’s main man in goal after having made a name for himself as one of the game’s best goalkeepers during his two years at Benfica.

Also, the £35 million-rated youngster has surpassed Gianluigi Buffon – who was signed by Juventus for £33 million from Parma – as the most expensive goalkeeper in transfer history.
