David De Gea is about to miss out on yet another opportunity to join Real Madrid, following Zinedine Zidane’s decision to give up and end interest in the goalkeeper’s services.

The Real Madrid boss has managed to sway the club’s board in favor of trusting Keylor Navas and not bid for De Gea. The Manchester United goalkeeper has been linked with a move away to Real Madrid for quite some time now, but his return to the Spanish capital looks a distant reality for now.

Florentino Perez was keen to bring the Spaniard to the Santiago Bernabeu, but Zidane believes that Keylor Navas has done well enough to retain his place as the main goalkeeper for next season. The steep valuation of the shot-stopper by Manchester United further deteriorated the chances of a deal being struck.

The French tactician believes that it is important to maintain harmony and team spirit in the squad, which is why he is trying to keep as many members of the team intact as he can. If reports in Spain are to be believed, Real are set to have an unusual summer transfer window, wherein there won’t be any trademark ‘Galactico’ signing.

Manchester United and Real Madrid have been linked with numerous potential transfers in between them. Los Blancos had a strong interest in signing De Gea, while Manchester United have been looking at bringing in the likes of Alvaro Morata, Gareth Bale, and James Rodriguez to Old Trafford.

It would be interesting to see how many of these transfers will ultimately go through in the summer.
