Barcelona and Benfica have reached an agreement over the transfer of Nelson Semedo.

The highly-rated right back will reportedly be joining the La Liga giants for a fee of £26 million, and he will undergo his medical at the club on Friday in Barcelona.

Semedo broke into Benfica’s first team back in 2015, and managed to make 46 appearances for the Portuguese outfit last season, helping his team win the League and Cup double. His performances caught the eyes of several clubs from the Premier League as well as the La Liga, but Barca have defeated all to win the race for his signature.

The signing of the Portuguese all but signals an end to the Catalan giants’ pursuit of their former academy teenager and current Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.

The reigning Copa Del Rey holders will now hope that their newest recruit successfully fills up the gaping hole left by Dani Alves at right-back, when he departed from the Camp Nou and joined Juventus.
