Cristiano Ronaldo Is Mission Impossible, Says Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has ruled out any attempts to sign former Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo during the post-match interview that followed his side’s 5-2 win over LA Galaxy.
The United boss is keen on strengthening his squad after an inconsistent season last time around. The Red Devils’ recent transfer market activity saw them secure the signatures of Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku, and both of them made their club debuts against LA Galaxy.
However, Mourinho does not wish to pursue Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, despite reports suggesting his possible departure from the Spanish capital.
“We have never thought about it because he is too much of an important player for his club, of great economic power,” stated the Portuguese manager.
“We have not been able to find for whatever reason anything that could have made us think that Ronaldo could leave. I’m not going to waste my time thinking about players who are mission impossible.”

Mourinho had given a list of his summer targets to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the end of last season, with an aim of signing four top-quality players. However, so far, the Red Devils have managed to acquire just two of those targets.
Initially, the Premier League giants tried to strike a deal for yet another Real Madrid forward in Alvaro Morata, but ended their pursuit of the Spaniard after sealing the transfer of Everton main-man Lukaku instead.

When asked about Morata, Jose replied: “He belongs to Madrid. Madrid have decided and we have not come to an agreement. It is simple. It is a shame. “He is a player who made it to the first team with me. We have a special liking for him, he is someone special. I enjoyed watching his evolution at Juventus and Madrid.”
However, Mourinho is happy with the signing of Lukaku, and he also claimed that he was delighted with the Belgian’s “unselfish” display in his debut match.
“Lukaku is a target man, he plays with his back to opponents,” said Mourinho. “A good thing today for me is to see that he’s a team player. He’s not selfish. He’s not obsessed with goals.”
On the other hand, Marcus Rashford impressed against the MLS giants as well, and looks positive heading into the new season. United will be expecting significant improvement as compared to last season during their US tour, and a stronger title challenge in the upcoming campaign.
