United Close In On Signing Dier Alternative
Premier League giants Manchester United are confident of closing a deal for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, who is set to be associated with manager Jose Mourinho in the upcoming season. This comes after the club’s failure to get Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur, after the London club rejected any move for the England midfielder.
According to reports, Mourinho had identified Dier as his top defensive midfield target for the summer, but Spurs rejected any advancements from United. This made the Old Trafford club look for reinforcements elsewhere, and Jose decided to go for Matic, who he managed previously at Stamford Bridge. After weeks of speculation, it has been reported that United are finally getting the Matic deal done.
Reports claim that the Chelsea midfielder has been given the green light to switch alliances to Manchester, despite the Blues rejecting an earlier bid for the former Benfica player. The Serbian is set to add a lot of vitality to the United squad, and is expected to take the mantle from Michael Carrick in a role that the manager feels is vital.
