Manchester United have offered an incredible £40 million for Tottenham youngster Eric Dier, in their latest attempt to lure the England international to Old Trafford, reports Sky Sports broadcaster Jim White via Twitter.

Dier has been strongly linked to United this summer, and although a previous bid for the Englishman was rejected by Spurs, Jose Mourinho will be hoping the renewed offer would be enough to get the North London side interested for business.

Dier had an impressive campaign last time around, making 36 appearances in the Premier League and playing a very vital role in Tottenham’s recent stability and success.

The 23-year-old has caught the attention of many clubs, not just due to his defensive prowess, but vastly due to his versatility, as he has been successfully deployed as a defensive midfielder, centre-back, and right-back.

On the other hand, Mourinho’s side have already secured the services of Victor Lindelof from Benfica. Adding the defensive skills Dier brings to the pitch alongside Eric Bailly, United would attain a great deal of defensive stability.

Moreover, the United boss must be under pressure to sign a defender, especially since their rivals Manchester City recently signed Danilo from Real Madrid.

However, more insight on the speculation cannot be drawn easily right now. The topic shall be observed closely and further news will soon follow.
