Ready To Fight: Spanish International Opens Contract Talks With Man Utd

Selection dilemmas make matches interesting for supporters, who get to see players deliver their best on the pitch so as to secure their spot. However, more often than not in the modern game, big money signings and crucial playmakers are rooted to their positions, and even prior starlets find it difficult to regain their once solid starting position. A similar problem is being faced by a Manchester United player, who is also a tremendous fan favorite.

The midfielder in question is Ander Herrera, who has been sidelined due to the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea. The Spaniard will be out of contract at the end of this season, but reports in The Sun suggest that the club has commenced talks with Herrera over a potential extension.

It appears that the 28-year-old is eager to fight for his spot with the Red Devils, and will commit his future to the English giants. In Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Stoke, the central midfielder was given his first start of the season.

Having been voted by supporters as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year last season, Herrera undoubtedly enjoys a cult position at the club. The fanfare is well trusted, as his on-pitch passing prowess is amongst the best in the Premier League, and perhaps even in all of Europe.

However, Matic’s contributions so far this season have made him arguably indispensable to the team, with the holding midfielder’s link-up play with Paul Pogba proving to be a lethal technical ploy for Mourinho’s side.

As of such, Herrera will have to give his all to be retained as a first-team regular, and will have to compete with the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata to sneak in a spot alongside the Serb. The competition that will ensue is bound to be beneficial to the side, and may result in the kind of creative midfield that United eagerly crave in order to mount strong domestic and European challenges.
