Manchester United Still Eyeing €35m-Rated Belgian Star
Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are still keen on signing Anderlecht star Leander Dendoncker, according to reports.
Dendoncker was linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer, but the move failed to materialize, and it was believed that United may drop the idea to sign the Belgium international after signing Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.
However, according to Belgian newspaper Het Belang Van Limburg (via Calciomercato), the Red Devils are still keen to bring in the 22-year-old star from Anderlecht. It was reported that United boss Jose Mourinho, who is a long-term admirer of Dendoncker, is refusing to end his pursuit of the player.
The Belgian giants have put a price tag of £34 million on their star, after Anderlecht sporting director Herman van Holsbeeck insisted that Dendoncker wouldn’t be allowed to leave cheaply.
Holsbeeck said, “We want to cherish him, but if a club is willing to pay between €25m and €35m, we have a problem. Against Manchester United, he has shown twice that he has the potential to play at a top European club.
“We are lucky that the Champions League will not start until September, otherwise we’d have certainly lost him. We would like to see Leander here another year, to work together for a transfer next summer. Just as we did with Tielemans.”
The Belgian midfielder is expected to leave at the end of this season, with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Everton, and Paris Saint-Germain also seeing the midfielder as a potential transfer target.
