Romelu Lukaku has revealed that several clubs wanted to sign him during the transfer window, but he only ever wanted to go to Manchester United once he heard of their interest.

Lukaku made the switch to Old Trafford in a move from Everton worth a massive £75m this summer, and hasn’t looked back since. The striker has played 6 competitive games for United and has as many goals, making the price tag actually look like a bargain, considering the ridiculous amount of cash Barcelona and PSG have splashed on signing players like Dembele, Neymar, and Mbappe.

A number of clubs were believed to be keen on signing the big Belgian – Lukaku and Mourinho’s former employers Chelsea being amongst them – but the chance to play for what he describes as the ‘biggest club in the world’ appeared too good to turn down.

Speaking to the media on this topic, the Belgian stated: “It’s the biggest club in the world. As soon as I signed for the club, I knew how big it was, I knew what it meant. I knew what the players were like, I really wanted this challenge.

“I knew about the interest of other clubs for about a year, so it was really on my mind to come and have a taste of it and I’m really grateful I got this opportunity.”

Last night, Lukaku finally had the chance to make his Manchester United debut in the UEFA Champions League, and he capped the day off with a well taken goal.

He added: “I was looking forward to just playing with this team in the Champions League. We were really well prepared and the result showed it as well but, as we all know, we can play better.

“There are plenty of goals in the team. That’s what the fans want, it’s what we all want. We work really hard in training on a daily basis and it’s good that different people can jump in whenever.”

Manchester United welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Sunday, in a game that will hold a lot of significance to two players. Wayne Rooney will be returning to the Theatre of Dreams in an Everton shirt for the first time in 13 years, while Lukaku will face his former team wearing the famous Mancunian red.

The young striker added: “I just keep going. The next game up is Everton, we are going to prepare really well and get another result.”
