United And Chelsea Join The Race To Sign Serie A’s Golden Boy
Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly made enquiries about Genoa’s 16-year-old wonderkid, Pietro Pellegri.
Pellegri has already been on the radar of top Serie A clubs, including the likes of AC Milan and Juventus, and now, the young striker has attracted some major attention from overseas as well.
As per Calciomercato.com, United and Chelsea are also eyeing the Italian forward, and have already made enquiries for him.
However, it was also claimed that AC Milan are currently the frontrunners for Pellegri’s signature, with their Sporting Director, Massimo Mirabelli, leading in arrangements to bring the 16-year-old to San Siro next summer. Along with Mirabelli, pouring requests from Milan’s youth team coach and former player Gennaro Gattuso have also escalated the preparations for a potential transfer.
The teenage striker scored a blistering double against Lazio last week, in a performance which reduced his father and Genoa’s assistant manager, Marco Pellegri, to tears during the game whilst on the bench.
In the post match interview, the youngster stated: “For me and my dad it is an important evening, I realized a dream that I had since I was little. My dad has followed me in football since childhood and it’s nice he has been thrilled for me. Since I started playing he’s always been following me in training in the cold and in the rain.”
Being branded the new ‘golden boy’ of Serie A, the young starlet has already broken a couple of records, after he equalled the record for youngest debutant when he made his Serie A debut aged 15 years and 280 days. Pellegri also became the first player born in 2001 to score in the Serie A, when he netted his first senior goal against Roma in May.
