Barcelona Considering An Ambitious Move For Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial has been identified as a potential transfer target for Barcelona, who are considering a swoop for the talented youngster.

The Catalan club are desperate to bring in a new player who can occupy the spot on the left wing, as they are short of options in the position.

Club record signing Ousmane Dembele made a bright start to his Barca career following his move from Borussia Dortmund, and looked set to make the left flank his own, before he suffered a torn hamstring injury that is likely to see him have a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Denis Suarez and Gerard Deulofeu are the only two players who can cover for the injured Frenchman, and it has left the La Liga table toppers in a tight spot.

Hence, they are on the look-out for a new long-term left winger, and view Martial as the perfect signing to accommodate the role.

Martial has been in and out of the Jose Mourinho’s team, with the Portuguese hesitant to offer the talented youngster a regular starting berth. Having initially struggled under the Portuguese last season, the Frenchman seems to have returned to the form that endeared him to the Old Trafford faithful during his first season at the club.

There seems to be a genuine happiness and freedom to his game once more, and he has had a fantastic return of five goals and six assists, despite only starting three games so far. Still, Mourinho’s men are flying even when the Frenchman is out of the team, and there is a reluctance to change a system that has been working so efficiently and effectively so far.

Every player is playing to the best of their abilities for the Old Trafford outfit, and this is hindering Martial from starting games. Marcus Rashford, in particular, continues to impress, and is a firm favourite of Mourinho’s. Once Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns from his injury lay-off, it might become an even trickier situation for the 21-year-old.

Keeping this in mind, Barcelona have been monitoring Martial’s situation, and could use it to their advantage. According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga giants are ready to tempt the former Monaco starlet by offering him a guaranteed place in the starting XI, and hope that this will persuade the wide-man to push for a move to the Nou Camp.

Martial is adored by the fans at Old Trafford who regularly sing his name, and he has already made 100 appearances for the Red Devils, despite only being 21, and scored 30 goals in the process. However, he may be forced to say goodbye if he continues to find opportunities limited.
