Atletico Madrid Teammate Explains How Griezmann ‘Used’ Manchester United
Antoine Griezmann hinted at a big money switch to Manchester United last summer, bearing the fact that he was one of Jose Mourinho’s top targets.
But after Atletico were banned from entering in the transfer window until 2018, the French forward decided to stay, and eventually signed a new five-year deal.
However, teammate Filipe Luis confirmed that it was part of the plan for Griezmann, who was thriving to get a better deal at the Spanish club. Luis claims that the talented forward was always happy in Madrid, with no intentions to leave, and only spoke about United to secure himself the best possible contract.

“[Griezmann] is a kid who speaks very clearly,” the former Chelsea defender told El Mundo.
“Often, players talk when they feel they are not being valued as they deserve. Then they get more attention. He would have had many offers from many teams.
“A player of his size wants to be up with the biggest in terms of contract and value. And that is fair – as Griezmann is doing great here.
“In the end, for all the talk about other clubs, he always wanted to stay here and he is still here, happy and liking it. We hope the fans understand this and everything gets back to normal, although he has been scoring goals, and goals cure everything.”
