What Mourinho Wants In Order To Extend His Stay With Manchester United

The Special One has appeared to be uneasy at Manchester United over the last week or two. This had nothing to do with his side’s 0-0 draw at Anfield against rivals Liverpool, but rather the fact that no new negotiations have commenced over renewing his contract with the Premier League giants.

Now, as per Guardian, the manager will demand a pay rise to any new deal signed at Old Trafford as a reflection of his work with the team so far. This certainly appears to be an apt request considering that just in his first season, he led the club to EFL Cup and Europa League success, plummeting them back into Champions League football.

Further, a simple look at the scorelines so far this season is reason alone to see a staggering difference in this bunch of Red Devils and the dejected sides that functioned under Moyes and Van Gaal. A steady string of 4-0 victories is the best that United have ever enjoyed.

While the Portuguese manager currently pockets a modest annual sum of £15 million in his current three-year deal, due to end next season, an attractive renewal appears a must if the Mancunian side wishes to not let the manager drift away to another European powerhouse.

Moreover, apart from sitting second in the Premier League table, a mere two points away from rivals Manchester City, they also sit atop their Champions League group table, and look strong in their defense of the EFL Cup.

While all of this is certainly the result of the likes of Lukaku, Pogba, De Gea and Martial putting in brilliant performances, the work of the ex-Chelsea boss simply cannot be denied, having brought the team together in a manner that certainly seems reminiscent of the glory days of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
