Yet another name has been added to the list of solutions for Manchester United’s unstable left flank. This time, Benfica star Alex Grimaldo has made it to the shortlist, and boss Jose Mourinho himself has ‘given the green light’ for the transfer, as per Portuguese outlet Record.

The youngster isn’t new to the footballing world, as he was a La Masia graduate who made his first professional debut for Barcelona-B. At the age of 15, Grimaldo became the youngest ever player to make an appearance in the Segunda Division.

Soon after, the talented defender made a switch to the Portuguese champions back in 2015, and has established a stable role in the squad.

The young Spaniard featured in his side’s Champions League clash against the Red Devils, and thoroughly impressed the United boss. Consequently, Mourinho has given the Old Trafford higher-ups his approval to sign the left-back.

The former Real Madrid boss has experimented with numerous players in order to find a lasting solution for the void at left-back. Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian, Luke Shaw, and Daley Blind were all seen assuming the role, and none of them have displayed satisfiable promise.

The 22-year-old is currently tied to a contract with the Portuguese giants till 2021, with Barca having rights to a percentage of his departure fee.
