Awkward: Ranieri’s Reaction When Leicester Asked Him To Return

Ever since their unprecedented crowning as champions of England, Leicester City have failed to repeat their title winning feats. Since then, the club has gone through two managerial sackings, with the latest one being Claudio Ranieri’s replacement Craig Shakespeare.

However, the Foxes recently found themselves in yet another awkward situation, as the Italian revealed the club returned to him with an offer following Shakespeare’s sacking, but were rejected.

Ranieri led Leicester to their first ever Premier League title in one of the most surprising league campaigns in the history of European football.

Whilst English giants like Liverpool and Chelsea failed to make it to the top four, Ranieri’s side managed to beat all odds, and lifted the decorated trophy in 2016.

However, all did not end well, as a slow start to the campaign that followed created discontent between the players, who reportedly held a secret meeting to initiate a change of power, which ultimately resulted in the club and former Chelsea boss parting ways in February 2017.

Nevertheless, an ‘almost’ successful start by new boss Shakespeare didn’t put an end to their decline, and the Englishman was eventually shown the exit door.

Following the departure, the Foxes were on the lookout for a replacement, and awkwardly enough, approached Ranieri, who said “no thanks” to the offer. The tactician told Corriere delo Sport (via Mirror): “The significance is that I have had a lot of jobs.”

It is hardly a surprise that a return to the King Power Stadium did not appeal to the Italian, after being given an exit ticket out of the blue following a title winning season. The 66-year-old decided to stick to his current side Nantes, which currently sits fifth in Ligue 1.
