‘Shoo-In’ – Arsenal Man Claims Manchester United Transfer Will Happen
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed that Mesut Ozil’s move to rivals Manchester United is in the offing.
Ozil has been regularly linked with the Red Devils over the past couple of months, after the German star rejected a contract extension to stay put at the Emirates.
Gunners, who themselves are eager to hold onto their ace playmaker, now seem to be accepting the fact that they would be without Ozil next term. Hence, they are looking to cash-in on him once the transfer window re-opens in January.
Though Jose Mourinho hasn’t made any official statement regarding the 29-year-old’s switch, the Special One is said to be keen on reuniting with his former star. The duo are quite familiar with each other’s work, as they have previously worked together at Real Madrid.
Wright believes ‘the move will happen’. While talking to BBC, the veteran striker stated that Ozil’s transfer to the Old Trafford Outfit looked a ‘shoo-in,’ and the kind that would ‘frighten [him] to death’.
Wright said: “Mesut Ozil to Manchester United on a free looks a shoo-in. I’m sure Jose would love to do that. That would frighten me to death.
“He is a great talent and having great players around him would lift him up as well. I’m sure him and his agent would not push it this far if they were going to sign (for Arsenal).”
The German didn’t feature in Arsenal’s dramatic 1-0 victory over Burnley in the Premier League, despite having traveled with the squad to Turf Moor. It was later revealed by Arsene Wenger that he was sent back to London by the club’s medical team because of illness.
