Manchester United goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal at Old Trafford, which will keep him with the Red Devils until the end of the 2020 season.

The 21-year-old has mainly been the first choice keeper for United’s U-23 squad, and the contract is an evidence of the manager seeing promise in the youngster.

His performances had ensured him a contract extension last summer itself, but his consistency has earned him a new deal until the summer of 2020.

The Irishman’s agent, Will Thornton, confirmed the news in an Instagram post, where he is seen alongside the young goalkeeper and academy head, Nicky Butt, at United’s Carrington training complex.

With David De Gea in such stellar form, and the Red Devils having the luxury of Argentina number 1, Sergio Romero, and Joel Castro Pereira as reserve goalkeepers, O’Hara’s news comes as a welcome one, as Mourinho now has the chance to juggle his goalkeepers.

The Portuguese boss has shown belief and intent in his youth, and also instilled faith in the young Irish goalkeeper when he named him on the substitutes’ bench in the last league game of the previous campaign, against Crystal Palace.

De Gea being a constant target by Madrid, and United’s busy schedule due to their participation in all competitions may have encouraged the United boss to reward the young Irishman for his consistency.

It will be interesting to track the progress of this starlet, as he tries to rise through the ranks and assert his place in the United team in the future.
