The Real Reason Why Martial Was Dropped For United’s Game Against Burnley

Anthony Martial was dropped for the Red Devils’ home clash against Burnley on Tuesday as a precaution to an injury he picked up during his last outing against Leicester City, as per reports.

Martial started in the frustrating 2-2 draw against the Foxes, and even had a clear-cut chance to grab all three points for his side when he went one-on-one against Kasper Schmeichel, but he failed to find the back of the net.

Many believed that because of this squandered opportunity, manager Jose Mourinho might have dropped the hammer on the youngster.

But according to the report from SFR Sport, the highly rated Frenchman was axed just as a ‘precaution’ to a ‘slight knee injury’ which he picked up while playing against Leicester.

The 22-year-old has struggled to find a permanent spot in Mourinho’s line-up, and despite his strong start to the season, the France international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

However, considering United’s poor run of form lately, the forward won’t be left out of the match-day squad for too long. The Special One would definitely like to keep him in the mix, especially after some very ordinary performances from his team lately.

Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic got his first league start of the season against Burnley, after his return to the scoresheet in the Reds’ shocking defeat to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

However, the Swede failed to make much of an impact at Old Trafford.
