What Happened Between Aubameyang And Lacazette vs Stoke City

Two lethal strikers are typically supposed to be competing for starting positions, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have a bromance brewing instead.

Stoke City visited the Emirates for their first league fixture following an international break that seemed to have lasted too long. A brace from the Gabonese and a late penalty from Lacazette sealed all 3 points as well as 3 goals for the Gunners.

However, despite having already converted from a spot-kick and a half volley, Aubameyang handed the ball to his fellow striker after being awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the game, denying himself his first Arsenal hattrick.

The Frenchman then did not disappoint, as he found the net from the spot, as expected of him.

“I know that Laca is back and I scored twice,” the former Dortmund star replied when quizzed about the incident in post match interview. “I think it’s good for his confidence and that’s why.”

The former Lyon striker had just returned from an injury, and the classy gesture from the Gabonese international would certainly aid his confidence.

And though Alan Shearer was not sympathetic to the situation and termed it as ‘unnatural’, the Emirates crowd seemed to love the gesture, as did Arsene Wenger too.

“That shows well the state of our society – when people are generous, we are surprised,” Wenger commented on the gesture when asked [via Arsenal]. “They have a good understanding, I like that because they can make the team stronger.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal still sit sixth on the table, with Potters now looking likely to be relegated. And though the fixture was hardly entertaining in the first 70 or so minutes, it really ended on a high note; at least for the hosts.
