OFFICIAL: Jonny Evans Joins New Premier League Club

Players of quality are often undermined when they leave the clubs that made them rise to prominence. As a result, any future transfer that involves them holds the potential that the spark that once lighted the saga could be kindled once more.
A similar case can be made of former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, who has officially joined Leicester City for a sum of £3.5 million.
An official statement by the Foxes manager Claude Puel read: “Jonny is a player of great experience in the Premier League and to have him as part of our squad is fantastic news. He knows exactly what it takes. He will bring a great deal to our squad.”
The gaffer also held the 30-year-old Irishman to be “a winner and a leader”.
The player himself had this to say about the switch: “When this opportunity came up, it’s one that I couldn’t turn down.

“It’s an ambitious club, the owners are ambitious and everyone wants to push the club forward. It’s a great place to play football, the fans really get behind the team and the players are fantastic.”
Evans had moved from United in 2015, and went on to join West Brom, where as club captain, he played 96 games and scored 9 goals.

However, his efforts weren’t enough to keep the Baggies from tasting relegation last campaign, and the second tier of English football awaited the lads. The same campaign had also seen him linked with Arsenal and Manchester City.
Incidentally, the player’s rather small transfer fee, which is to be paid in two installments of £1.75 million each (BBC) arrived as a result of the relegation, enabling a clause in the player’s contract.
Leicester have been intent pursuers from last summer itself, when a bid of £25 million was rejected by West Brom. A smart piece of business in retrospect.
