Top European Clubs Competing For £50m Ajax Youngster
Manchester United have joined fellow Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and Spanish champions Barcelona in the race for Ajax star Frenkie de Jong.
According to a report in The Sun, the Mancunian club sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old recently, during Holland’s Nations League clash against France.
The versatile midfielder, who can also play as a defender, has got United manager Jose Mourinho in awe of his talent. Ajax are set to command a fee of £50m for the talented individual.
Jose is believed to be eyeing a move for the Dutchman in order to bolster his midfield options, despite having an array of players in this area. The report adds that, the club could make a move for De Jong as early as in January 2019.

United faced the heat after having a below-par transfer window in the summer. The club is believed to be eyeing a central defender besides De Jong. Moreover, his versatility and shift of positions could aid Jose if he fails to get a top-class defender.
As per the report, an Old Trafford source has revealed: “The club decided to take a look at him as they have been getting rave reviews from elsewhere.

“Jose and the staff like the look of him. He can play in a few different roles and he looks comfortable wherever, which is a big plus.”
But United aren’t the only club targeting the young starlet, as Spurs and Barca too, are in contention for his signature if Ajax do decide to sell.
There is a feeling that the player likes the Premier League, and this possibility can help United convince the player to choose Manchester as his next destination.
