Mourinho Reveals Why He Did Not Make Any Substitutions Against Juventus

Manchester United‘s dismal journey in the 2018-19 season continued, as the Red Devils faltered once again to suffer their 5th defeat of the season across all competitions.

United lost 0-1 against Juventus at Old Trafford in their crucial Champions League Group H encounter. Paulo Dybala scored the lone goal of the game, as the Italian side dominated the match throughout.

United came close with Paul Pogba hitting the woodwork, but nothing else materialised in a rather one-sided affair. Despite trailing, Jose Mourinho did not introduce any new players, and finished the game on the same note.

One saw several players warming up, and there was a hope for even teenage talent Tahith Chong to come on as a substitute. But Jose decided against making any changes, and later gave his reason for the same.

Speaking to the media after the game, Jose revealed: “Well, you have to bear in mind that Alexis Sanchez was in the stands, Jesse Lingard was in the stands. Fellaini may or may not have been in the stands – he might have been at home I didn’t see him.

“And the only really attacking options I had on the bench was a young 18-year-old lad who has never played in the first team before.”

United have been hit hard by injuries, with Lingard missing out since the last couple of games. Sanchez is the new addition to the list as well, besides Fellaini.

This just goes on to show that the Red Devils are really imbalanced as far as their attack is concerned. They seemingly need a backup striker too, with Romelu Lukaku firing blanks throughout the season.
