Bernardo Silva Takes A Dig At City Rivals; Dismisses Them From Title Contention

Man City star Bernardo Silva appears to have taken an indirect dig at arch-rivals Manchester United.

The defending English champions have been flying high this season as well, as they currently sit atop the Premier League table, albeit due to a superior goal difference than Liverpool, who have bagged just as many points (26) as the Mancunians so far.

The two toppers are closely followed by three clubs from London, viz. Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur, whereas 20-time English champions Manchester United continue to fight their way up the table from the 8th position.

Keeping this very fact in mind, Silva has straightaway dismissed the Red Devils as potential title contenders for the ongoing campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Portuguese international stated: “I think it will be harder because last season nobody was expecting us to win as many games and to reach that level of points, so this season the teams know they have to do better to beat us.

“Of course it will be very hard, but we will work every game to get the three points and at the end of it try and celebrate winning one more Premier League.”

The midfielder then specified the teams he thinks will prove to be tough competitors, by adding: “I think either Chelsea and Liverpool (are contenders), they are very strong, Arsenal as well. Even Tottenham, even though they lost (on Monday),  they’re still contenders.”

Will Manchester United take this as an insult to their prestige? Or will Jose Mourinho make smart use of these statements to motivate his struggling squad? Only time will tell.
