With a thumping 5-1 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer succeeded in instilling confidence into his Manchester United reign.

Hope will be heavily pinned onto the Red Devils, who are now tasked with attaining a top-four Premier League finish before the end of the season. In addition to that, the FA Cup and the Champions League Round of 16 will also be viewed as strong challenges going forward.

The Norwegian’s reign is not certain to continue into next season, but should he secure the side with assured Champions League football next campaign, some extra incentive will be given to him.

According to the Mirror, Solskjaer has been promised a £2 million bonus by Ed Woodward should he reach that goal. This is quite understandable, as failure to compete in the elite league will mean that the side will lose upwards of £40 million through revenue and other means.

As of such, it is easy to see why the higher-ups at Old Trafford have made the goal appear even more lucrative.

Of course, Solskjaer wouldn’t have required such a promise to see that a top-four finish is secured, and results elsewhere on Saturday will mean that their task is made all the more easier.

The bigger issue will be to fight off other competition that is also vying for the top spots, with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal likely to be major competitors to the Mancunian giants for the accolade.
